About A Different Voice

What is sexual assault?

RAINN.org provides a really great explanation of the different types of sexual assault.  This can include many different forms of unwanted touch or behavior.

What is this blog?

A lot of survivors have a hard time talking about their experiences with sexual abuse.  Maybe it was a long time ago and you don’t quite remember.  Maybe your feelings are overwhelming and you can’t find the words.  Maybe you’ve talked about it so many times and so many ways - you just need a new way to express yourself.

It can be really healing to put your feelings into creativity.  This blog hopes to be a place to share what comes from that.  A painting, song, poems and anything else!  In addition to original works by you, we hope to add lots of other art that you find healing.

Who should post here?

Survivors of sexual assault, friends, family, advocates and loved ones.  Everyone is welcome!

What should I post?

Is there a painting that made you mad in a cathartic way?  Is there a song that makes you think of someone you know who has been through trauma?   What about a quote or a poem that inspires you?  You can add a photo that you took that reminds you how strong you are.  Post song lyrics that got you through a rough day.

I see other art up here that isn’t about sexual assault.  Why was it posted?

Maybe the person who created it had a different meaning in mind - but the person who posted it felt like it related to his or her experience.  That’s the way it is with creations - you never know what they’ll mean to someone else.

How can I submit something?

Just send your submission to differentvoicesblog at gmail dot com or submit them yourself here.  Privacy is respected here and we won’t EVER share or post any information that you prefer to keep private.

You can also ask stuff at our formspring!

If you prefer that we include a link back to you on your submitted post, make sure to include it in your submission. Submissions will not automatically link back to your tumblr, except through the notes. If you are sharing someone else’s work, let us know who it belongs to.

If you decide to submit someone else’s work, please try and let us know where you found it or who created it.  Thanks!

I want to submit something, but I don’t want anyone to know it was me.  Can I do that?

Of course!  Just sent it to differentvoicesblog at gmail dot com.  We won’t share your information unless you specifically ask us.

I want to tell my story here!

We have a community blog over here.  Send us your story or anything else that you want to share.  We’ll see about getting it posted there.

I saw something I made on this site and I want it taken down!  Take it down!

Just send us a link to the post where your work appears.  Even better if you include a link to where your original appears along with it.

I saw something in the uplifting section that wasn’t so uplifting.  I am upset.

Hopefully nothing in the uplifting section is triggering or upsetting.  If you see something that isn’t so uplifting, please send in the link.  It is your space afterall!

Why did you start this?

I met with people who had made official reports, felt they had talked everyone’s ear off, they had been in therapy, read every book and yet still felt they needed something more.
